Currently, when a student is first enrolled in a class that is licensed for OnCourse Classroom, he/she is able to send messages in OnCourse Connect to all of the students AND the instructor in the class. Now, OnCourse has added the ability for districts to change this so, by default, when a student is initially enrolled in a class, he/she will be blocked from sending messages to students in the class. The recently added student will ONLY be able to message the instructor.
If you would like to turn on this feature for your district, please contact OnCourse Support and we'll get you set up right away.
Let's look at how this feature works:
In this example, Neil Burton was just added to Mr. Bishop's English class. Since the new Block Messaging feature is turned on, when Neil attempts to send a message from Mr. Bishop's English class, he will ONLY be able to send messages to Mr. Bishop.
To allow Neil Burton to send messages to everyone in the class, Mr. Bishop needs to manually allow messaging.
To do this:
- Navigate to OnCourse Classroom
- Click on the Classes & Groups tab
- Select the Neil Burton
- Click on the Actions menu
- Choose the Allow Messaging option
- Now Neil Burton is Allowed messaging
