The Lockdown Browser for OnCourse Assessment enables districts to administer electronic tests knowing that student access to online activities will be blocked.
To activate the Lockdown Browser in OnCourse Assessment
- Open an assessment
- Click on the Settings tab
- Expand the Lockdown Browser setting
- Change the setting to Yes
When students open an assignment or assessment with the Lockdown Browser feature activated, they will only be able to access the assignment or assessment, and all other online activity will be blocked.
The Lockdown Browser feature must be activated on district computers and must be configured properly.
Contact Support. Contact OnCourse Support to initiate Lockdown Browser configuration for your district. Once this is done, the Lockdown Browser feature will be visible in OnCourse Assessment.
Install files. The Lockdown Browser requires the installation of browser application files on district-issued devices. Depending on your district's device situation, you will either use a setup link or a guide. See the list below for more information.
NOTE: Districts must install the files linked below for the Lockdown Browser to work properly.
Important Note for Customers Using Chromebooks: The LockDown Browser runs in “Kiosk” mode. Google recently changed its policy, and now requires that Chromebooks in Kiosk Mode be “centrally managed”. Click HERE for Google's policy.
There are no central administration instructions for Windows or Mac machines. If your district uses these platforms, use the client installers linked below. Once the Windows or Mac app has been installed on client devices, no further configuration is necessary.
When the student opens the assessment, they will see this message:
The first option allows the student to confirm the Lockdown Browser is installed. The second option automatically opens the assessment with the LockDown Browser.
