Work Based Learning experiences can assist with narrowing career options, provide opportunities to network with potential employers, assist a struggling student decide on a major, or help to hone job skills directly relevant to future employment. Work Based Learning provides an outlet to gain early exposure to employment, allowing students to “earn while you learn.”
The LDOE will add a mechanism for LEAs to indicate a student’s participation in work based learning. Districts are now required to label classes that are work based learning credits and report them on the Student Transcript Grade Submission (STS030). There are two new work based learning fields available in OnCourse. The fields can be set for individual students at the class level.
To access:
- Click on the Class Manager tab
- Select the Sections tab
- Click directly on the number of students in the Student column
- In the Edit Section window make sure you're in the Class Enrollment tab
- Select the Override icon for the desired student
- Complete the two work based learning fields
- Work Based Learning Category
- Choose a category from the available options
- Work Based Learning Business
- Type the description of the place where work based learning occurred
- Work Based Learning Category
Also, if you have to manually key in transcript records from other schools. this can be done in the student record under the transcript tab
- Click on the Student Information tab
- Select the People option
- Search for and open a student record
- Click on the Transcript tab
- Select the Edit icon to edit a course
- The same two work based learning fields are visible at the bottom of the record
- Work Based Learning Category
- Choose a category from the available options
- Work Based Learning Business
- Type the description of the place where work based learning occurred
- Work Based Learning Category
