The Self-Attendance feature requires that students take their own attendance prior to logging into OnCourse Connect. The attendance value they select automatically populates their daily attendance for that day. Staff then has the option to keep or change this value.
If you are interested in using the feature in your district, please contact OnCourse Support. Once we flip a few switches, you're ready to configure Self Attendance. If you choose, OnCourse can help with the configuration or you can do it yourself. If you choose to do it yourself, please follow the below steps.
Configure Self Attendance
Navigate to the Self Attendance Setup node in System Manager.
System Manager > Schools > Choose a School > Grade Book Settings > School Options > Attendance Options > Self Attendance Setup
Clicking directly on the Self Attendance Setup option will open the application on the right. Here you will see a place to add attendance times.
Add attendance times to the Self Attendance application by clicking the Add Attendance Time button, completing the fields, and clicking Save. The values you populate in the Present Value and Absent Value fields are linked to the attendance value that is automatically created for the student.
Once attendance times are added, when a student logs into OnCourse Connect they will see the screen below. Students will be required to selects "I am absent today" or "I am present today".
If the student chooses one of the options during a time period designated in the Self Attendance Setup app, the associated value in the Present Value column or the Absent Value column will be used derive the student's Daily Attendance value for that day.
In the below examples, present was defined as between 7:45 and 7:59.
Example 1: If a student logs into OCC at 7:50 am and chooses I am present for school today, a Present value will be automatically entered as the student's Daily Attendance for the day.
Example 2: If a student logs into OCC at 8:05 am and chooses I am present for school today, a Tardy value will be automatically entered as the student's Daily Attendance for the day.
In the Attendance tab, once a student has taken their self-attendance, teachers and administrators will see the attendance value in the Attendance column and Student Self Attendance in the Comments column. If the user hovers over the attendance value they will see the date and time the attendance value was submitted and the person who submitted it.
Staff with the proper permissions can edit these attendance values.
When self-attendance is taken, a daily attendance value is generated. Teachers will NOT be able to change the Daily Attendance value. Daily attendance values that are generated by self-attendance can ONLY be changed in Active Attendance by users with the proper permissions.
