Class Linking User Guide

Class linking is a useful feature for teachers, especially those who teach multiple periods of the same subject. The feature ensures that the correct homework and notes will appear in the Grade Portal for each of your periods. When used correctly, class linking will eliminate the possibility of students seeing multiple periods of homework for the same subject in their Grade Portal. Linking classes to a template eliminates the need to link classes to every lesson plan.

**NOTE: If you do not see the Class Linking icon in your template or lesson planner block, or your classes are not set up, please contact the OnCourse System Manager for your school or district.

1. If You Only Have Lesson Planner . . .

You can create your own classes to link to your lesson plans and templates. This will require a preference activation by your System Manager.

If your school already uses Grade Book, you can skip to step 6.

2. Click "Class Maintenance" Icon

When in your Lesson Planner, this icon will be in the left-hand toolbar.

3. Click "Add Class"

Click the green (+) button in order to begin adding classes.

4. Give your Class a Name

You have the ability to name your class however you'd like. Keep in mind, these class names will be visible on the Homework Portal.

5. Repeat as Necessary

Create as many classes as you teach. After this step, your classes will be available to link to your plans.

6. Open Lesson Plan Template

Open the template to which you wish to link classes.

7. Open Template Block

Open the first block to which you wish to link a class. Note the date and period in the top-left.

8. Click "Class Linking" Icon

Clicking the icon brings up the list of classes you are teaching.

9. Check Box Next to Appropriate Class

Select the class you teach during this period of lesson plans.

10. Repeat As Necessary

Use the day and period drop down menus to avoid closing the block every time you want to link a different class. Save and close when you are finished.

11. Your Classes Are Now Linked!

This will now ensure the correct homework will appear on the Grade Portal for each of your class periods.
