The OnCourse Teacher Website is integrated with the Lesson Planner, and certain items like homework and documents will be shared between both programs.
On your website, you can add pictures, videos, hyperlinks, documents, and calendar events. This guide will show you how to add content to the website.
1. The Website Editor
The Website Editor is used to add/edit/delete content in any of the three sections of the website. The three sections are the header (large picture at the top of the screen), the body (the main website area) and the main menu.
To edit any of these sections, click the Pencil icon next to them (see arrows, right) to launch the editor.
2. Editing the Body or Header
Clicking the Pencil on the body or header will open the content editor,shown to the right. You can add content just as you would in any word processing program.
There is a toolbar (see green box, right)with many familiar functions, like font,font size, bold, italic, justification, etc.
As content is created, click Save or Save and Close to send the content to the live website and see how it will appear to visitors.
3. Adding Pictures
Note: In some cases, a picture from the Internet (i.e. Google Image Search) can be copied and pasted directly into the website editor. However, this can be more problematic than downloading the picture and following the steps below.
To add a picture from your computer to the website, follow
thesteps below:
1. Click the Insert Image button the editor toolbar (Fig. 1)
2. Click the small Browse icon next to Image URL (Fig. 2)
3. Any images that you’ve loaded already will appear in the Image Library. To select one of these pictures, simply double-click it. To upload a new picture, click the Upload Image button
4. Click the Add File button
5. Select the photo(s) from your hard drive to send them into the Uploader (Figure 4)
6. Click the Upload File button (arrow,Fig.4)
7. The picture will now appear in the image library. Select it with the mouse and click OK.
8. Adjust any properties of the picture (Figure 5) like the size, alignment, border, or horizontal and vertical space, and click the Insert button to add the picture to the website
4. Common Picture Adjustments
• Pictures can be moved around on the page by simply dragging and dropping it in relation the text
• To resize a picture, simply click and hold the white boxes around the edges of the picture and resize it manually
• To make the text wrap around a picture, right-click on it and select an alignment (shown right)
• To return to the image properties, right-click on it and select the Insert/Edit Image option
5. Adding Hyperlinks
To insert a hyperlink to another website, follow these directions:
1. Type the label of the link in the website editor and highlight it with the mouse. For example, in the example (shown right) the user’s link will read “OnCourse Academy Website”
2. Click the Insert Hyperlink button (seearrow, right)
3. Type the full URL in the field for Link URL
4. To launch the hyperlink in a new window when the user clicks it (recommended) change the Target drop-down to Open Link In New Window
5. Click the Insert button
6. The link will appear live on your website
6. Inserting Documents
Before linking a document to your OnCourse website, it must first be uploaded into the OnCourse Documents section. Once this is completed, follow the steps below:
1. In the editor, click in the area where the document link should appear
2. Click the Attach Document button (shown right)
3. The Documents section will appear.Double-click the file to be added to the website.
4. An active link will be added to the website
7. Moving Header Content
To slide header content to the left, right, up, or down, click the Green Arrows button and use the sliders.
